Skinny Jeans, straight leg jeans and other tight fitting jeans are in vogue now. This stylish trend can however pose health hazards to those who regularly wear these. It might lead to a lesser known conditon called "Tight Jeans Syndrome". Wearing thight jeans compress the latera femoral cutaneous nerve, asensory nerve that runs from the abdomen through thigh. The compression results in numbness, tingling and a burning pain in the legs above the knees, a condition which is medically known as 'meralgia paresthetica".
Apart from causing pain the legs, the syndrome might also result in digestive issues such as heartburn, indigestion and abdominal distention. Wearing high heels with skinny jeans can further aggravate the situation as the heel tilts the pelvis in a way that increase the pressure of the skinny jeans. However, one need not worry as this condition is caused only when jeans is worn tight around the hip area. For person suffering from this syndrome, removal of the simulant is recommended i.e he/she stops wearing a tight belt or jeans that are tight around that area. Doing this would help the person return to normalcy in six weeks. But, people who tend to ignore the symptom and keep wearing tiht fitted jeans might be causing permanent damage to their lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.
Following are some pain relieving tips for people suffering from this syndrome:
1) Take Pain Killer
2) Moist Heat Therapy
3) Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation
4) Physical Therapy
5) Pulsed Radiofrequency
6) Surgery
