The 2014 Cannes Film Festival will be the 67th annual event that is scheduled to be held from 14 to 25 May 2014 in Cannes, France. The carpets have been rolled out for a lot of famous celebrities including Mike Leigh, Jean-Luc Godard, David Cronenberg, the Dardenne brothers, and Jane Campion, who is the the head of the jury for the main competition section. The entire event will have 19 potential directors, out of which 13 have been nominated before, who will be competing for the crowning Palme d'Or award. The results for the Palme d'Or and the winning film in the UnCertain Regard section will be announced on 24 May and 23 May, respectively.
Featuring all the designs, art direction, and typical aroma of French streets, the sets of the vents willfeature Lambert Wilson, a French actor, as the host of the opening and closing ceremonies. The jury for the Main Competition consists of Carole Bouquet, a French actress, Sofia Coppola, an American film director, Leila Hatami, an Iranian actress, Gael García Bernal, a Mexican actor and film director, and many others. However, Pablo Trapero, an Argentine film director, Peter Becker, the President of the Criterion Collection, Géraldine Pailhas, a French actress, and a few others will be deciding the winning film for UnCertain Regard section.
The opening film for the Palme d'Or category will be the GRACE OF MONACO, a beautiful script displaying few spats between the current royal family and the film's producers. Directed by Olivier Dahan, the film features Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly and Tim Roth as Prince Rainier as main star cast. PARTY GIRL is scheduled to open the Un Certain Regard section and the film is story of Angélique, a 60 year-old night club hostess, who is still in love with men and enjoys partying whole night. Written and directed by Marie Amachoukeli, Claire Burger and Samuel Theis, the film is claimed to follow the footsteps of Sofia Coppola’s last year presentation- THE BLING RING.
Followed by screenings from all these big directors, producers, and scriptwriters, the event will also showcase various Short Films & TV Films. This category will feature films from China, Georgia, Japan, United-Kingdom, Azerbaijan, Hungary Romania and others prominent countries. The jury president is Abbas KIAROSTAMI (Iran), won a Palme d'Or in 1997 for Taste of Cherry, and other team members includes Noémie LVOVSKY (France), Daniela THOMAS (Brazil), Mahamat-Saleh HAROUN (Chad), and Joachim TRIER (Norway).
The event also features a section called ‘Cannes Classics’ that presents old established feature films and masterpieces from the history. Sophia Loren, who has received the award for Best Actress in 1961 and was president of the jury in 1966, will be the guest of honor under this section. The actress marked her comeback to the industry in LA VOCE HUMANA (2014, 25mn), the film directed by Edoardo Ponti. The pretty lady is now 80 and will attend the screening of Marriage Italian Style (Matrimonio all'italiana) by Vittorio De Sica (1964), which will be screened in 4K restoration by L’Immagine Ritrovata.
Stars from the Indian Film industry will also paint the red carpet of Cannes on 14th May 2014. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Mallika Sherawat are some of the Indian beauties who will be hitting the event soon. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be accompanied by her husband Abhishek Bachchan and will be entering the event as the brand ambassadors of amfAR (American Foundation for AIDS research). Freida Pinto, Thierry Frémaux, Uday Chorpa, Anne Thompson, Agnès Poirier, and many other glamorous stars and their beautiful companions are expected to visit this event at Cannes.
