Facts About Spices

Saffron: Kesar contains crocetin a cancer-fighting element. Just a few threads of this expensive spice claim to prevent the progression of cancer. Remember to add a lovely golden garnish to your rice everyday. Also, add a few threads to the milk for the kids each morning .

Cardamom: Did you know that Cardamom revs up your metabolism and helps burn fat? Urban Indian cooking may have forgotten about the Cardamom, but the little pod is one of the best digestive that soothes the stomach and in fact, helps the body process other foods better. Add a pod to most dals(Lentils) and curries .It tastes great with rice preparation as well .Also add powdered versions to any fruit or milk- based dessert.





Ginger: This ancient spice is known to soothe upset tummies, relieve colds and fight inflammation. Don't depend on the ready pastes, finely chop and add the fresh root to your daily meals. Asian salads taste great with fresh ,juicy ginger slivers .Make ginger-based breads ,cookies and cakes, if you enjoy baking.

Turmeric: Good old Turmeric contains cur cumin, an active component, that helps keep your heart healthy. That regular dose of Turmeric helps reduce bad cholesterol and high blood pressure. Moreover, it helps blood circulation and prevents clotting ,thereby preventing a heart attack .Remember to add an extra dash of Turmeric to all your dishes.

Cumin: We always knew Cumin was a digestive but, it's also much more than that. Filled with antioxidant characteristics and thymoquinone, cumin helps prevent prostrate cancer. Don't relegate it to potatoes and rice, use liberally in pulses, curries and even stir-fry's.
